Biography
Massimo Modoni – Bass
Massimo began his musical education as a Harpist and continuo player, studying in the Padova and Venice conservatoire both harp and reading a Masters in early music. He trained vocally under the late Francesca Scaini and Sherman Lowe in his hometown Venice and than with Alison Pearce at the Royal Academy of Music. He has than perfected his craft with Operatic legends such as Mirella Freni, Silvio Zanon, Salvatore Cordella and vocal coaches Alexandre Naoumemko and Giancarlo Mari.
He has performed at prestigious venues such as Teatro Malibran and the San Marco basilica in Venice, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Teatro Dante Alighieri in Ravenna, Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, the Luglio Musicale Trapanese, Teatro dei Ricordati in Siena, Conway Hall in London and BVOF in Ireland. His musical collaborations include working with esteemed conductors Renato Balsadonna, Paolo Olmi, Cristian Cimei, Sir John Elliott Gardiner, Emanuela Di Pietro, and David Brophy as well as renowned accompanists such as Michele D’Elia, Joice Fieldsen, Vincenzo Rana, Roberto Corliano’ and Andrés Gallucci.
During last season he performed the solo bass in Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle under the baton of Paolo Olmi. Massimo sang Mandarino in Puccini’s Turandot under the baton of Maestro Cristian Cimei and the role of Starveling in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with BVOF and the title role of Pierrot in Le Fete Galant with Pegasus Opera Company, conducted by Odaline de la Martinez, as well as a series or recitals in with celebrity organist Jeremiah Stephenson in the UK and italy. This program showcases a selection of opera arias and scenes from 19th- and 20th-century Italian opera.
In October 26th 2025 Massimo sang Armando in the world premiere of “La ragazza imprudente” By joe Schittino at the Luglio musicale Trapanese, conducted by Mirco Reina.
Massimo has been principal artist alongside Soprano Nila Masala for the recital “O dolcezze, O memorie” commemorating the great italian baritone Ettore Bastianini, featuring in the Bastianini Festival promoted by the city of Siena.
He has perform as bass solo for a touring production of the Mascagni messa di gloria conducted by Emanuela Di Pietro.
He has recently performed the role of Barone Douphol in Giuseppe Verdi's traviata for Hurn Court Opera and the role of Davide in the world premiere of La Cartomante by Salvatore Valente in the Politeama Greco Opera House in Lecce, under the baton of Maestro Di Pietro.
In may 2026 Massimo debuts the role of Dottor Dulcamara in Elisir D'amore for Fest in Art.
In September Massimo will sing Davide in “La Cartomante” of Salvatore Valente under the baton of M. Di Pietro at the Apollo opera House in Lecce, Italy.
He will be Saul in the October production of Charpentier’s David and Jonathan with New Sussex Opera under the baton of Toby Purser.
In October 2026 Massimo alongside Jeremiah Stevenson will perform their “Sacro & Profano” recital programma in St. Thomas cathedral in NYC.
